Maggot therapy. Sterile maggots of the greenbottle fly being added to an open wound(leg ulcer) by a nurse. These larvae clean wounds by eating dead/dying flesh, leaving the healthy areas to heal. The maggots prevent the growth of harmful bacteria in the wound by altering the acidity and releasing an antibiotic compound. The dressing is used to prevent the maggots spreading outside the wound.
